Bismillah. In over 15 years of teaching Quran, I have corrected the same five Tajweed errors in students from every background. These are not obscure rules — they are fundamental mistakes that, once fixed, transform your recitation immediately.

The 5 Most Common Errors

01

Incorrect Makhraj of ح and ه

Students frequently pronounce the deep letter ح the same as the light letter ه. These come from entirely different articulation points.

✓ Fix: Practise ح with a strong breath from deep in the throat
02

Not Observing Ghunnah on Noon and Meem Mushaddad

When ن or م has a shaddah, the ghunnah must be held for two counts. Most beginners skip it entirely.

✓ Fix: Feel the vibration under your nose for 2 full counts
03

Shortening Long Vowels (Madd)

The three long vowels must each be held for exactly two counts. Students routinely cut these short.

✓ Fix: Tap your finger twice for every long vowel
04

Idghaam vs Izhaar Confusion

Students often merge letters that should be clear, or pronounce separately letters that should merge. Common in Juz Amma.

✓ Fix: Memorise the six Izhaar letters: ء هـ ع ح غ خ
05

Wrong Tafkheem and Tarqeeq

Many students apply heavy pronunciation to letters that should be light. The letter ر has complex rules most students ignore.

✓ Fix: Study the Tafkheem letters with a qualified teacher
